A new pub is to open in Wolverhampton city centre named after Wolves and England legend Billy Wright, creating up to 16 new jobs, it was revealed today.

The troubled former Koi bar and lounge, in Princess Street, is to be reopened as a traditional pub called The Billy Wright by national pub chain Amber Taverns.

The building has been closed at least five times in the past seven years and has been marred by trouble in the past, including a stabbing, an attack on door staff by football hooligans and riots. It has previously operated under names such as Red Bar, Divas, Jumpin Jacks and The Tube.

Amber Taverns today announced plans to spend around £360,000 renovating the disused building and rebranding it as a traditional pub serving cask ales.
