Bank holiday events including the Sandwell Community Show have attracted thousands of visitors despite a weekend of changeable weather.

But hopes of a glorious end to the long weekend were set to be dashed today as forecasters said a mix of cloud cover and light showers would see in the end of summer for the West Midlands.

About 12,000 people were at the Sandwell Community Show in Sandwell Valley Country Park, West Bromwich, yesterday, with thousands more expected today.

Today, at the Rodbaston Campus of South Staffordshire College, people were able to go pond dipping at the Countryside Capers event, while Asda was holding a Wolverhampton’s Got Talent event.

The gloomy weather will continue tomorrow as a maximum temperature of 19C (66F) will feel cool for the time of year.
