Everyone wins this match of the day

Usually there is no love lost between supporters of Wolves and West Brom.

But Nick Wilkinson, aged 49, a lifelong Wolves fan and  Angie Reed, 50, a Baggies’ fan, put their football rivalry aside to tie the knot at St Paul’s Church in Long Lane, Blackheath, on Saturday, 18 months after meeting on the internet.

To make matters more complicated, Angie was given away by family friend and Aston Villa fan Paul Millership, and Birmingham City fan Lee Twining, 40, was best man.

Mr Millership, 45, managed to watch the Villa-Wolves game with the groom just before the ceremony and the nil-nil result meant there was no tension at the big event.

Mr Millership joked: “The result ruined my speech. I was going to say something about Villa giving us three points, but it’s worth it because I’ve given a Wolves fan a wife.”

Angie said it didn’t bother her that her new husband was an avid Wolves supporter.

After the ceremony the couple, of Clifton Road, Blackheath, were whisked off to Birchley Sports and Social Club in Brunel Road, Oldbury, for the reception.
