Mick McCarthy is on his bike
Saturday 27th August 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy got on his bike to help raise £10,000 for charity.
The Molineux boss joined club mentors Mike Wood, aged 52, and Jeff Whitley, 36, in a half marathon challenge with a difference.
While the mentors, who lecture the players on the dangers of addiction, are running 10 half marathons in 10 days in an attempt to raise £10,000 for charity, McCarthy donned helmet and race goggles to act as pacemaker on his mountain bike as they pounded the South Staffordshire Railway Walk.

Using a GPS tracking device, McCarthy plotted the distance from the club’s Compton Park training ground to a point 6.55 miles away so they could complete the full 13.1 miles distance.
Wood, who has been a close friend of McCarthy’s for three decades, and Whitley, a retired professional footballer who played for Manchester City and Cardiff and who played for the Wolves boss at Sunderland, started their gruelling effort on Monday.
They also plan to complete the Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon on September 4 after a three-day rest following their 10 half marathons.
The Express & Star’s Wolves correspondent Tim Nash joined the trio for their fourth run, which started and finished at the club’s training ground at Compton.
They all finished the course together in one hour, 45 minutes, 59 seconds.
“They all did very well. It was a super effort and I enjoyed it on the bike,” said McCarthy.
Next Tuesday it’s the turn of Wolves secretary Richard Skirrow to join the mentors over the same distance. Charities in Wolverhampton and Stockport, where Wood and Whitley are based, will benefit.
