Three bags rubbish limit binned by 1,800

Almost 2,000 households in a Black Country borough have requested extra bin bags since council chiefs imposed a limit on how many could be put out for collection it has emerged.

A controversial three-bag limit on collections from each household in Dudley was imposed alongside the issuing of bin bags in bulk in September last year.

But in certain cases, such as when people need to dispose of low grade medical waste like catheters or for families with babies, householders can put in a request to put out an extra bag.

Today council chiefs revealed that the number of homes in the borough which now receive an extra bag has reached around 1,800.

Those residents who have been successful in applying for more have been given a red sticker by the council to show they are allowed to put four bags out.
