All change for Bridgnorth’s cliff railway
Thursday 25th August 2011, 11:30AM BST.
The new owners of Bridgnorth’s historic cliff railway today spoke of their excitement at taking on the attraction, which they have likened to Hong Kong’s famous Peak Tram.
The Bridgnorth Castle Hill Railway Company, which includes the cliff railway, was put up for sale by former operators Allan and Jean Reynolds in February.
It was purchased by the Suffolk-based Tipping family for between £700,000 and £800,000.
The Tippings have pledged to continue to run the railway.
The railway links High Town and Low Town and included in the sale was a guesthouse, a tearoom and a flat. Eileen Tipping has become the new chairman of trustees while her sons Malvern and Jason Tipping have become directors.
Mrs Tipping, based in Beccles, near Bury St Edmunds, said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for our family.
“We have long had associations with Hong Kong and see this purchase as a chance to own our own mini version of Hong Kong’s famous Peak Tram.”
