A pioneering new drug could offer hope to thousands of overweight diabetic patients after one West Midlands woman lost four stone in less than a year.
Patricia Fagan, has had to invest in a whole new wardrobe and is now a size 14 having slimmed down to less than 12 stone following a new course of treatment for her type 2 diabetes.
The 59-year-old receptionist has been attending the diabetes clinic at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust since first being diagnosed in 2000.
Her weight had ballooned to more than 20 stone over the previous few years but the mother of two, who also has three stepsons, is now getting used to her svelte new look.
And Patricia, who lives in Northfield, Birmingham, has attributed much of her weight loss to a drug called liraglutide, which she has been taking since August last year.
