Bridgnorth’s cliff railway has been sold to property developers for between £700,000 and £800,000.
Operators Allan and Jean Reynolds put the Bridgnorth Castle Hill Railway Company, which includes the cliff railway, up for sale in February.
It has been sold to the Suffolk-based Tipping family after attracting “a tremendous amount of interest” from all over the country.
Jonathan Bengough, from agents Knight Frank, said: “We are very happy it’s a family interest who have purchased the company. They will treasure it as much as the Reynolds have done for 15 years.”
The railway links High Town and Low Town. Included in the sale was a guesthouse, a tearoom and a flat.
Eileen Tipping and one of her sons, Malvern Tipping, become the new directors of the Cliff Railway.
