Eighteen elderly residents at a Stourbridge care centre have been uprooted and moved to a new home after the owner announced he was closing down.

And one resident’s family has accused Sandwell Council’s social services team of moving her almost 10 miles away without telling them.

Dennis Dawes, the owner of Westfield Lodge, in Norton Road, gave 28 days’ notice to Dudley Council on July 6.

Dudley Council funded nine out of the 18 residents living there and has been working with their families to find alternative homes.

The final two residents remaining at Westfield Lodge are due to move to by the end of this week. It is not known why the home shut.
