Wednesbury worker tragedy factory is closed

A Wednesbury factory where a worker died when he was trapped by pipes remained closed today.

Health and safety chiefs were at Roberts Gordon Europe Ltd in Darlaston Road, to investigate after a factory worker died when he was trapped by steel pipes.

The 58-year-old, named locally as Ronald Meese from Bilston, died yesterday morning. Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the heating company’s base at around 9am.

The Midlands Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene, but later called off. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Relatives have been too upset to talk about the tragedy.

Today the company was closed and shutters were down at the factory. No staff could be seen and the car park had just a handful of cars.
