Wife tells of terrifying well plunge
Tuesday 26th July 2011, 12:00PM BST.
Denise Brooks today described the terrifying moment she fell into a 400-year-old well at her Midland home.
But it was a case of all’s well that ends well for the 65-year-old, who cannot swim, despite the terrifying 40ft fall into the darkness.
She was left with just minor injuries after yesterday’s freak accident at her home in Worcestershire.
Mrs Brooks said today: “It all happened in a split second. One minute I was standing there and the next I was just sort of plunging down into the water.
“That was the most frightening thing, not knowing whether I was going to come back up again.”
Her husband Mike shouted down to ask if she was OK, as she grabbed on to a rope to keep herself afloat.
Mrs Brooks calmed herself down and wedged herself against the wall.
The incident happened as Mrs Brooks tried to free a water pump they were using to fill their duck pond.
