Victim brands HIV lover ‘scum’

The victim infected with HIV by Nkosinathi Mabanda today branded him ‘scum’ and said he should have been locked up for life.

Mabanda was today starting a four-year jail term after admitting a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The 44-year-old, formerly of Cannock but now living in Tixall Road, Stafford, will serve an extra 12 months on parole after his release and be considered for deportation by the secretary of state.

Mabanda was also handed an Anti-Social Behaviour Order prohibiting him from engaging in sexual activity with any person without first disclosing he has HIV.

His victim, who is from Walsall but cannot be named for legal reasons, today said her life had been changed forever.

She said: “He should have been given life because that’s the sentence he has given to me. He’s just scum. I hope he’s deported because I hate him.

“I’m on medication now for the rest of my life.”

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told yesterday that Mabanda tested positive for HIV in 2004, shortly after moving to the UK from Zimbabwe with his wife. They later separated.

The court heard his relationship with the victim started after they met at a Black Country betting shop, but it was years later when she discovered he had HIV.
