Lorry driver dead in horror M5 crash

A lorry driver has died after his truck crashed into a bridge and burst into flames on the M5 in the Midlands.

The accident on the northbound carriageway caused the motorway to be shut in both directions between Junction 3 at Halesowen and Junction 4 at Bromsgrove.

Fire crews were called to the Junction 3 slip road at 1.50am today and found a heavy goods lorry on fire by Carters Lane bridge.

Paramedics were unable to save the driver who was in the cab and was confirmed dead by ambulance crews. He has not yet been named.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Joanne Hunt said police were investigating the cause of the crash.
