Man hurt in West Bromwich blast

A pensioner has been taken to hospital after a cooker exploded in the kitchen of his West Bromwich home today.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to the address in Walsall Road around 9.13am.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, was treated for burns to his hands and face.

Ambulance service spokesman John Hawker said an an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an incident support officer were sent to the scene.
