A record 30,000-strong crowd of country music fans flocked to the Black Country for an annual festival – and are now waiting to hear if their line dancing efforts have put them in the Guiness World Record books.

More than 7,500 people took part in a bid to claim the record for the most people simultaneously dancing to a single track at a country music event during the annual Wolvestock festival.

The two-day event, now in its 17th year, took place at East Park over the weekend and attracted record crowds of around 30,000 revellers – double last year’s numbers. Co-ordinator Jim Duncan said: “I think we have got the new world record. We should know by the end of the week.”

The attempt was led by former EastEnders star Shaun Williamson, who played Barry Evans in the soap between 1994 and 2004.

The 45-year-old will be starring at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre in romantic country musical comedy Rhinestone Mondays from September 13-17.

He said: “There is something about everyone dancing in unison that is quiet wonderful.”

    no….

30,000 people flocked to the East Park in WOLVERHAMPTON. The Black Country has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Paid for and made in Wolverhampton!

Wolverhampton, I am very proud to say, is in The Black Country. I can’t understand your attitude, what on earth could possibly be wrong with this this event being credited to The Black Country, apart from the truly dreadful music?

Wolverhampton is not part of the Black Country. Part of Wolverhampton lies within an area vaguely once defined as “the black country”. Given that the open coal seams have long since disappeared the title is an irrelevance.

It is a matter of journalistic accuracy. The event is in the City of Wolverhampton.

Yes, and as far as I’m concerned the City of Wolverhampton is in the Black Country, sorry if you find that offensive but tough. Also, if you think that the title is an irrelevance then I feel truly sorry for you. So sad.

You’re right. I’m glad I left I left school in 1976 when it was still taught. You can have the last word now son, I can’t be bothered with this anymore, I have a life. Bye.
