It has taken 15 months to complete and brought disruption to the city centre, but the city's new £22.5 million bus station is finally here.

The inside of the new station was finally revealed today ahead of it welcoming its first bus on Sunday.

Transport bosses have described the station as a world-class facility that will act as an "impressive and iconic" gateway for people visiting Wolverhampton.

Centro Chairman Angus Adams said this afternoon: "The station is a show of confidence in the city and its future and is a key part in its ongoing regeneration."

Contractors were today putting the finishing touches to the sleek-looking station, which comes complete with gleaming windows and pristine white roof tops. Passengers will be kept informed of services through a network of flat-screen information boards.

From Sunday, buses will enter the station via a new lane created on Ring Road St David's, which will run against the flow of traffic but will be protected by a wall.

The new design of the station removes the risk to pedestrians who previously had to cross between bus stands in front of moving buses using zebra crossings.
