Shock over lunchtime robbery at Morrisons

An armed robber held up a security guard outside a busy Staffordshire supermarket in front of shocked onlookers and snatched a cash box.

The thief shouted “I’ll have that, thanks” before he fled on the back of a waiting motorbike.

The raider, wielding a knife, struck at Morrisons store in Milestone Way in Burntwood, at 12.30pm yesterday as the guard was returning to his van, parked outside the entrance.

But police say the metal box was empty as the security firm had been delivering cash to the supermarket, not picking it up.
