Serco may lose Walsall schools contract
Thursday 21st July 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Serco’s contract to run education services in Walsall could end, it was revealed today, with council chiefs set to discuss the matter next week.
Termination of the private company’s £345 million contract is one option to be discussed by Walsall Council’s cabinet next week.
It comes after an increasing number of schools broke ties to become academies and control their own affairs and budgets.
Earlier this week the Express & Star revealed the contract was under review following a “major shift” in national education policy.
Walsall Council said the issue would be discussed behind closed doors at next Wednesday’s cabinet meeting. But members have promised to keep staff, parents, children and school communities up to date.
