First look at revised giant mosque plans
Wednesday 20th July 2011, 11:30AM BST.
This is the first picture of what a new multi-million pound mosque and community centre in the Black Country could look like if plans are given the go-ahead.
The image shows a 63ft gold-coloured minaret and a 45ft green dome on the building planned for Hall Street in Dudley. The entrance doors are in the centre, with windows along the front of the building.
Architects say the designs have been influenced by both traditional and Islamic architecture styles.
The cost of the scheme is now being put at £6m – around half the figure previously quoted.
Officials say the complex wil include leisure facilities, open to non-Muslims, as well as two cafes, a multi-use sports hall, a gym, a nursery and a permanent exhibition of Muslim beliefs.
It would also offer educational facilities, including language courses for workers such as taxi drivers who may be struggling with their English.
