Four-year-old Rachel Warren tried to copy her pet dog by popping her head through the front gate – and became stuck fast.

And after frantically trying to pull her daughter free outside the family home on Fisher Street, Brierley Hill, her mother Carlene was forced to call in the fire brigade who raced to the scene to rescue the youngster.

The drama unfolded as 31-year-old Carlene was preparing to take her daughter to nearby Hawbush Nursery at around 11 yesterday morning.

The youngster, who has a 15-year-old brother Matthew, had her reins on when she started playing and pretended to be the family's beloved pet dog.

Unfortunately she then stuck her head through the front gate – like the dog often does – and found her head was stuck between two bars. Her mother says the fire brigade was on the scene within minutes and a firefighter was able to pull the gates open releasing Rachel.

Afterwards the youngster was treated to a tour of the fire engine by firefighters who said they were impressed with how brave and calm she had been throughout her ordeal.
