At last! Bus station to open next month
Friday 24th June 2011, 7:00PM BST.
Wolverhampton’s new £22.5 million bus station will open on July 24.
New timetables will be announced next week and Geoff Inskip, head of transport group Centro, said he was “delighted” the station would be opening on time and on budget after 15 months’ work.
The terminus is the busiest in the West Midlands and is used by 1,800 services a day.
“It will not only be a top quality bus station, it will also give a really positive impression of Wolverhampton to people arriving in the city,” he said, adding: “We thank the people of Wolverhampton for their patience.”
Workers are still on Ring Road St David’s finishing off new lanes for the buses.
They are also completing the installation of a 114ft-long £1.8m footbridge over the ring road. Ring Road St David’s is currently closed most nights while the footbridge is being installed. That section of the work is due to be completed this Sunday.
A section of ring road between Wednesfield Road and the Bilston Street island will close from 7pm tonight to 9pm tomorrow.
Workers will then be back on site from 6am Sunday until the road can be re-opened at 9pm that night.
