Murder probe launched after fatal shooting
Wednesday 22nd June 2011, 11:30AM BST.
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead in a Birmingham street.
The victim, who has yet to be named, was found lying in Melville Road, Edgbaston at 10.13pm yesterday, with a suspected gun shot wound to the body after reports of a shooting from members of the public.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by members of an ambulance crew.
Officers have cordoned off part of the area while forensic experts comb the area for clues. Police are meanwhile going door-to-door with their inquiries.
Steve Garey, a spokesman for West Midlands Police, said the inquiry into the shooting was in its early stages and officers were trying to establish the precise circumstances to trace the offenders.
He added: “Local people should be reassured this type of crime is not commonplace in Edgbaston and we would appeal for anyone with information to come forward to assist us.”
Anyone with information is urged to ring 0345 113 5000 and ask to speak to Force CID.
