Metal raiders take plates off war memorial
Tuesday 31st May 2011, 5:00PM BST.
Metal thieves were blamed today after two brass plates featuring the names of dozens of soldiers who died during the First and Second World Wars were stolen.
Police said they were exploring all lines of inquiry but the attack on the Wednesfield Village Memorial, in Church Street, was being treated as theft.
A saw appears to have been used to remove the plates. There was no other sign of vandalism. It prompted calls for CCTV to protect the monument.
Anybody with information should call Sgt Simon Causer at Wednesfield police station on 0345 113 5000.
