Families heading off for Bank Holiday breaks suffered major delays today after a serious crash closed a West Midland road.

Three people were taken to hospital after the crash on the A446 at Bassetts Pole which affected nearby major holiday routes like the A38 and the M6 toll and M42.

Families heading for nearby Drayton Manor Park and other local attractions were also facing delays.

The collision, involving a lorry and two cars, closed the A446 London Road, near Sutton Coldfield, overnight.

Families heading for nearby Drayton Manor Park and other local attractions were also facing delays.

The collision, involving a lorry and two cars, closed the A446 London Road, near Sutton Coldfield, overnight.

The carriageway was still closed today. The accident occurred after the lorry careered through a fence and hedge and into the garden of a property before coming to a stop.

Two other cars were also caught up in the collision just before 10pm last night.

The injured were taken to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield.

Three others, including the HGV driver, were given medical assistance at the scene.

The collision, outside Upperlands Farm, at the junction with Withy Hill Road, closed the road in both directions over a two-mile stretch between the Bassetts Pole island and The Belfry.
