Car parks fees cuts call made
Monday 23rd May 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Parking charges may be slashed at a Black Country town centre’s car parks in a bid to draw in more shoppers in new advice to transport chiefs which was revealed today.
Transport chiefs are being advised to cut the cost of a four-hour stay in Walsall’s council-controlled car parks by £1 to £2.80 a day.
Concerns were raised of drivers were being priced out of town or just using free spaces at supermarkets. It currently costs £3.80 to park for four hours — but £1.40 for two hours.
A working group was set up by the council.
It looked at parking issues and recommends cheaper longer stay parking to the decision-making cabinet.
