New hi-tech signs to cut Walsall congestion
Friday 20th May 2011, 5:36PM BST.
Hi-tech electronic signs will direct drivers to parking spaces under plans revealed today to keep traffic moving around Walsall town centre.
At least six signs at busy spots will flash information to motorists pointing to the 1,494 spaces in the town centre.
The devices could also be introduced into other town centres such as Willenhall and Bloxwich. The signs have already proved effective in Wolverhampton.
Paul Leighton, Walsall Council group leader for traffic management, said: “We are looking at installing a minimum of six parking information signs on key gateways into the town centre by early 2012.Discussions are taking place around the best locatio and at it is too early to say exactly where they will be.”

When will council leaders do something SENSIBLE?
…This scheme seems to be yet another total and utter waste of money now that shoppers have started deserting the town following the parking charges that have been introduced across the town centre.
Personally, I’d sooner see the money spent on transport services for our deserving pensioners!!

I agree paul i use to go to the market every sat morn .Not now since they felt the need to charge me every 10 min with a traffic warden(or whatever they call them these days)hiding round the corner in case i am a minute late.

Good luck with that Walsall… On my visit last week I observed that there were empty parkng spaces everywhere on a Saturday afternoon anyway… Try doing something to resuscitate my hometown please, because it seems on the verge of death to me.. empty units all over the place, one of the UK’s oldest markets moved to a stupid location, and general sense of apathy and resignation everywhere. Good work town planners!

Is it me or does this sound like a council plan? Spend money regardless of whether the spend is any good….

Well all the signs would be pointing to Tesco, free parking. Why pay to use council parking when there’s free available Tesco’s now got the monopoly in the town center.
