Wolverhampton city centre knife alert sparked

A man seen brandishing a knife in a busy Wolverhampton city centre street in broad daylight sparked a police alert.

Officers were called to Queen Street just after 4pm yesterday after a man was apparently seen with a blade outside the Walkabout bar.

Officers were seen rushing out of a police van before storming flats opposite the bar.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Officers searched the street and a knife was recovered nearby.

A man has been charged with the offence and released on police bail to appear before city magistrates on May 10.
