Jail for drug dealer in kidney operation
Thursday 28th April 2011, 10:30AM BST.
A man was caught dealing drugs in a Black Country street months after being allowed into the UK from the Caribbean to donate a kidney to his sick brother, a court heard.
The successful transplant was at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, but weeks later Christopher Blake was found selling heroin.
The 30-year-old was seen with a known drug user in Wolverhampton Street, Dudley, at 9pm on March 28.
He had more than £200, two phones and keys to a house to which one mobile was registered, said Mr Zaheer Afzal, prosecuting.
Officers found 50 £10 wraps of heroin inside a locked room with £500 worth of the drug in a plastic bag and £150 in coins, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told yesterday.
“The defendant made no comment when questioned but police noticed that his phone rang incessantly,” concluded Mr Afzal. “It was clear that he was a low-level retailer of class A drugs.”
Blake got a medical visa to enter the UK in March last year but had now been served with deportation papers, said Miss Blondelle Thompson, defending.
“He donated a kidney to his brother and now has a further hospital appointment because of some complications with his condition.
“He was of previous good character and was part of a wider organisation in drug dealing. He also plans to appeal against the authority that served him with deportation papers.”
Blake, whose home address was given as George Street, Handsworth, admitted possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and was jailed for two years eight months.
