TVs from murders home are recovered
Wednesday 27th April 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Two TVs stolen by burglars who murdered an elderly couple in their Wolverhampton home have been found by detectives, it was revealed today.
The TVs, one worth £40, were recovered at an address in the city after an appeal by police and the family of tragic Guiseppe and Caterina Massaro.
The couple were stabbed with a knife and hit with a hammer in what officers describe as a “sustained and brutal attack” at their ransacked home in Woden Road, Heath Town.
Three men, understood to be Polish, remain in custody today on suspicion of murdering the Massaros, who came to Wolverhampton from Italy in the 1960s.
Two are aged 21 and 32, and are from Wolverhampton, and the other is 30-and from Birmingham. Police believe the house was broken into on Thursday night.
Their granddaughter Lindsey Booth, 23, found the bodies of Mr Massaro, an 80-year-old former GKN worker, and his 77-year-old former factory worker wife in the couple’s bedroom at around 8pm on Friday.
Mr Massaro had tried to fend off his attackers and suffered defensive wounds.
Supt Mark Payne, from Wolverhampton police, said today: “The weight of the force’s resources are behind this investigation.
“We have made early arrests and the inquiry continues at speed.”
