Boss of film quango resigns

The chief executive of a quango which supports film makers and production in the West Midlands has stepped down.

Suzie Norton has left her post as chief executive of Screen WM after three-and-a- half years.

The organisation is being wound down and replaced in October with a new national body called Creative England. The 34-year-old was in charge of Screen WM during the time hit show Hustle was filmed in Birmingham.

Screen WM provided £400,000 to bring the show starring Robert Vaughan and Adrian Lester to the West Midlands. It is estimated it brought £1.2 million into the region’s economy.

The company today paid tribute to Miss Norton saying she secured £14m of funding for the region’s media industries and launched a partnership with Channel 4, to deliver the first regional hub for the channel’s 4iP fund.

She was named Vitalise Businesswoman of the Year in 2010 and last month was listed by Glamour magazine as one of the UK’s top 35 women under 35.
