A pensioner has taken the charity plunge by completing 68 lengths of a swimming pool to mark her 68th birthday.

Mother-of-two Pat Rogers, of Wombourne, completed the feat to raise £900 for the Breast Care Action Group at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.

It is not the first sporting challenge she has taken up, having completed a 67km bike ride last year and 66 holes of golf the year before.

“I started for my 65th birthday because I wanted to do something a little bit different,” said Pat, of Strathmore Crescent.

“I don’t think too far into the future so don’t know if I will do something next year.

“I just take each year as it comes and I do like a challenge.” Instead of blowing out 65 candles three years ago, Mrs Rogers, who is married to Cliff, aged 69, took on her own special “65 triathlon”, running for 6.5 miles, cycling for 65 kms and swimming 65 lengths  all in the space of one weekend.

Keen to carry on the trend, she spent her 66th birthday at Oxley Golf Club, Wolverhampton, playing 66 holes of golf and completed a gruelling 67km bike ride last year.

“It is important that I have the support of my family and all of my friends so I’d like to thank them for that and their sponsorship,” said Mrs Rogers, who has raised more than £2,000 for charity through her birthday challenges.
