Tribute to ex-council chairman

A popular Lichfield councillor has died at his home after losing his battle with cancer.

Councillor Tony Hill, who was a district councillor for the Colton and Mavesyn Ridware ward, died last Thursday.

Councillor Hill had represented the ward since 1995. He was the chairman of Lichfield District Council from 2004 to 2005 and in his time at the council he served on 12 committees

Lichfield District Council leader Councillor Mike Wilcox said: “Tony Hill was a district councillor for an impressive 16 years. He was popular and well-regarded, and his presence will be missed by everyone here at the council.

“Tony was committed to his constituents, and worked hard on behalf of his community. He took an active role at council meetings and sat on and chaired lots of committees.

“He was proud to take up the role as chairman of the council from 2004 to 2005, and enjoyed the opportunity to meet people and groups from across the district.

“Tony’s loss will be felt keenly by all who knew him, and I will miss a good friend.

“Our deepest sympathies go to Mary and all of Tony’s family at this sad time.”

Lichfield District Council will not be holding a by-election for the Colton and Mavesyn Ridware ward.

Instead, a new district councillor will be elected as part of this May’s district elections.
