Taylor Swift at Birmingham’s LG Arena – concert review
Wednesday 23rd March 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
Taylor Swift, LG Arena
Birmingham
Superstar country and western singer come pop star Taylor Swift bounded onto the LG arena stage last night full of energy, glamour and attitude.
This was the first date on the UK leg of her worldwide Speak Now tour.
Opening with the album’s upbeat title track, Speak Now, Swift was immediately able to get the audience up on their feet. By racing across the stage, jumping up and down and head banging whilst playing the guitar Swift proved she can be both rock chick and pop princess.
Dressed in a glittering gold tasselled dress with black knee high boots the Nashville singer’s style reflected her pop star status and country routes.
What, however, was most impressive was not her looks but her musical talent, as after the dramatic glitzy opening to the show she swapped her backing singers for her guitar and sang a selection of solo songs.
At one point she walked to a platform at the back of the arena and sang tracks including, Fearless, whilst playing the ukulele. Swift promised to return to Birmingham and ended her show with the song that helped her make it big in the UK, Love Story.

She opened up with Spark’s Fly, not Speak Now.

Thanks Sarah. I did not think she changed the set list. “Sparks Fly” is a great opener. Looking forward to the “Speak Now” tour to roll through my region.

Well spotted Sarah :)
As us Fan’s are aware… Spark’s Fly forms a special bond between Taylor & her Fans & is a natural choice for opening number!
Spark’s Fly has been a private underground favorite with Fan’s that was never released on Taylor’s EP “Beautiful Eyes” or later 2nd CD “Fearless”.
After constant Fan pleading with Taylor over several years she changed her mind about releasing the track! Taylor admits Spark’s Fly became the No.1 question in M&G lines particularly during Taylor’s 14.5hr recent signing session.
So Taylor greatly rewrote the Spark’s Fly lyrics & musical arrangement so that it would fit within the concept for “Speak Now” retaining most of Chorus.

Well said Sarah; Opened up with Sparks Fly – NOT Speak Now. (I bet these journalists hardly even know who she is!)
Kaylee – the support act will probably be the same as Birmingham: Martin & james. They are very folk-music if you ask me.
