Superstar country and western singer come pop star Taylor Swift bounded onto the LG arena stage last night full of energy, glamour and attitude.

This was the first date on the UK leg of her worldwide Speak Now tour.

Opening with the album's upbeat title track, Speak Now, Swift was immediately able to get the audience up on their feet. By racing across the stage, jumping up and down and head banging whilst playing the guitar Swift proved she can be both rock chick and pop princess.

Dressed in a glittering gold tasselled dress with black knee high boots the Nashville singer's style reflected her pop star status and country routes.

What, however, was most impressive was not her looks but her musical talent, as after the dramatic glitzy opening to the show she swapped her backing singers for her guitar and sang a selection of solo songs.

At one point she walked to a platform at the back of the arena and sang tracks including, Fearless, whilst playing the ukulele. Swift promised to return to Birmingham and ended her show with the song that helped her make it big in the UK, Love Story.
