Family rumble sees brother tumble

Black Country brothers Matt and Adam Powell were often told off for fighting as youngsters.

But last night, they stepped into the ring to battle it out for the first time as professional wrestlers in front of a full house home town crowd.

Boos and cheers rang out at the packed Saddlers Club, close to the Banks’s Stadium, as the Walsall brothers got ready to rumble.

Matt, aged 26, who wrestles as Mad Dog Maxx, won the first battle — beating little brother Adam, 21, in a tag team duel.

Mad Dog and partner Tom Mason beat Adam, aka Mr Fantastic, and partner Tiger Singh after landing a low blow as the referee’s back was turned.

Adam had the last laugh, winning the royal rumble main event by flinging his brother over the top rope. After the show though, it was all smiles for the pair who live in separate houses in Tame Street East, Fullbrook.

Matt, who has wrestled professionally for 11 years, said: “I didn’t take it easy on him because he’s my brother. If anything, I was trying a bit harder because I know there are no hard feelings.”

Adam, who has wrestled for two years, said: “I really enjoyed that — it really got the crowd going.” Their mother, Louise, had never seen them wrestle each other before.

She said: “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I actually enjoyed watching them and they put on a good show.”
