Fake Pc is fined over phoney car pull-overs
Friday 25th February 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
A would-be policeman from the Black Country who was turned down for a job as a special constable has been sentenced to community service after fitting blue lights to his own car.
Tipton’s Daniel Bunce, who would pull people over, admitted impersonating a police constable.
He was sentenced to 12 months community service, fined £100 and banned from driving for six weeks at Warley Magistrates Court.
The court was told how 20-year-old Bunce fitted blue flashing lights to his grey Ford Focus after his legitimate bid to join the police was turned down.
He used the lights to skip traffic jams and pull people over so he could tick them off for their bad driving.
Sentencing him yesterday, presiding magistrate Rita Holloway said: “It’s a serious issue to be impersonating a police officer to any extent.
“Other people in the road could have felt intimidated.”
The court heard the defendant, of Beech Crescent, put blue lights under the grills of his car between February and March last year.
Prosecutor Kully Khaira said he used the lights on several occasions to make other cars get out of the way.
He said on more than one occasion Bunce also pulled people over to talk to them about the manner of their driving.
Gerard Brady, defending, said his client was a young man who had been immature adding:”Temptation got the better of him.”
After the hearing, Bunce said his application to become a special constable was turned down in 2008. Asked about his sentence, he said: “It could have been worse.”
