Striking view of new Wolverhampton bus station
Saturday 29th January 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
With its striking curved roof created with the same weather-proof material used in space shuttles, these latest pictures show Wolverhampton’s £22.5 million new bus station is really taking shape.
A total of 45 half-ton windows have been lifted into place, while a replacement footbridge crossing Ring Road St David’s and connecting the bus station with the train station will be put in place in the spring.
Today developers Neptune revealed the landmark Queens Building, which is being restored having stood since 1849, has a “major high street” retailer set to move in.
The new office building next door to the 19-stand bus station is nearing completion.

What a waste of money. £22.5m for a shinier version of the Bus Station that was hardly used in the first place.
Hardly used? Have you ever been into the station at any time of the day?
Quite right! Hope there’s better surveillance for the sleepers and the piddlers though.
i used it and so do alot of people..James have?
Maybe that’s because commuters had little choice but to suffer it.
Hardly used! it was well used, and served it’s purpose adequately.
Please base your comments on fact James.

I dont think it was hardly ever used?
Wasn’t it to make bus drop offs and pick ups easier, quicker and safer because there are no places for people to walk in front of the buses any more.

Well its a damn site better than the effort thats in Wasall

What a monumental waste of money when so many other things, far more important and necessary, need addressing.
There was still plenty of life in the old bus station. The old saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” certainly comes to mind.

Hmmm
Very shiny… Rather cheap looking though… Will the buses have to do a u-turn? Is there room? Will this be like Croydon where tram tracks were laid only to find the trams could not negotiate the bends?
Why is there a need for a foot bridge? Surely there is a bridge… or has the decision to move the bus station further from the railway station cost a couple of million quid that might have been better spent elsewhere?

Have seen the bus station in its many incarnations over the years. This looks to be its most interesting yet and am looking forward to visiting and using it.

It looks really superb, but what concerns me is that there seems to be no ‘patch’ where the buses would stand until it was time to load passengers on. Previously it was down at the bottom of the station. Will this mean blockages in town with buses having to wait there and just pull in to load?

WOW! so what, its only transport! what do they want sofa’s and tv’s in the waiting area for delayed bus’s.

London and Birmingham have no Bus stations and manages quit well with out them!
So why do the smaller towns around the country need them?
Wolverhampton town centre was mutilated beyond recondition by the ring road and the building of the Bus station, which lets face it,the Bus station is an hang over from the days of the nationalised bus company’s.
The Bus station should have been demolished and the land be sold off for redevelopment!

Money would have been better spent ensuring that summer row development went ahead. The bus station looks great but is it gonna bring more shoppers into Wolverhampton and is it’s gonna stop shoppers from Wolverhampton going to the bull ring or merry hill?
Its a shame that probably by the time its finished that there’ll be no shops left in town to visit, that’s if the funding doesn’t run out on it. really interesting to hear that it has the same weather proofing as the space shuttle, have they any plans to launch it in to space in the near future

22.5 million pound the goverment chat so much shit its unbelievable to be honest? talk about Recession yh right? sorry but i think that is a wast of money? they need to find better things to spend money on? like better Schools? better parks for children? a cleaner street wild life? etc etc

Oh for goodness sake, will you all stop moaning?! The bus station was a very busy and sometimes scary place to be at night, if this helps with the issues of having to walk infront of buses and there is more cctv then i welcome the changes! Having bus stop scattered around town at the moment is a pain so yes a bus station is needed.
I’m sure frequent bus users would have complained if the station stayed the same and now your complaining about them improving it!
