Nine arrests over Wolverhampton break-ins

Nine men have been arrested in one house by police investigating a string of raids on shops on a busy Wolverhampton street.

Tills, cash and cigarettes were recovered when the suspects, who were today being questioned in connection with break-ins on the Dudley Road in Blakenhall, were held in Parkfields.

One of the group of suspects, which includes seven teenagers, was found in a cupboard while two were in the loft, police revealed.

The nine were held at an address in Bevan Avenue, Parkfields, at 3am yesterday, around 40 minutes after a break-in at a newsagents in Woodcross.

Police say cigarettes and alcohol were stolen in the burglary at DS News & Wine on Turner Avenue. Officers searched the area and recovered a car believed to have been used in the raid.

The suspects include three 18-year-olds, a 19-year-old and two men aged 20 and 25 from around the city. One lives in Perton and all have now been released on bail until February.

There have been 14 break-ins at shops in Dudley Road over the past three months. One of the stores, Samra Supermarket, has been hit six times in nine months.
