Petrol prices set to hit £1.30
Thursday 30th December 2010, 5:00PM GMT.
Petrol will soar to an average of £1.30 a litre in January, figures suggested today.
Crude oil prices jumped 44 cents this week after the recent sub zero temperatures sent demand soaring.
Fuel duty rises will add another 0.76p a litre on January 1, and will be made worse by the rise of VAT to 20 per cent a few days later.
A two-car family will pay an extra £104 a year, the AA said. Spokesman Andrew Howard said: “It is going to be an expensive year.”

It’s funny as the cost of crude goes up so does the forecourt price, why is the not reciprocated and reflected when the price of a barrel has been a lot lower. It only goes one way, bleeding everyone dry on the way.

Supply and demand, idiots – supply and demand. Look it up in an economics textbook; if you can read, that is.

Explain to me your supply and demand theory where pertol in the USA is 1Dollar 50 a GALLON not a litre.

Since when ispetrol still classed as a luxury. Some of us need it as an essential to get to work and fund those who choose not to work.
Give us a break this is damned extortion.

I don’t think it’s easy to blame the price hike on sub-zero temperatures. Cold snaps rarely last long in England compared to other countries – do they pay the same? So where would one point the finger of blame? I’ll start with greedy, selfish, incompetent and corrupt interests..when is the next election again?

The british wont care, they wouldnt say boo to a goose, the french would!!!

It’s just gone up to 1 Dollar 50 Cents a GALLON in the USA.

What time warp are you living in? It’s about 85 cents (55p) per liter. In general terms a litre in UK always costs about 2/2.5 times the cost of a liter in USA because of iniquitous UK government taxes. Similarly USA Federal/State governments apply iniquitous tax rates to petrol compared to some other countries. It’s one big scam.

VAT is charged on fuel duty as well as the product. Nice little money spinner for HMRC.

the fuel increase will not only affect motorists but via the transport infrastructure will increase the cost of living for every one and will most likely lead to the double dip recession that we all fear. is the government that out of touch that they do not see the connection? STEP IN NOW LOWER THE TAX AND VAT ON FUEL BEFORE IT IS TO LATE

Im so sick of this rip-off country and all its greedy government.
Supply & demand yes, but why is the UK again so much more expensive then anywhere else???
With VAT and duty going up it’s going to sting a lot of people as I can bet the salaries of everyday folk will not be increased to balance out the raise in the cost of living.
All UK is now is a poor country in modern world full of greedy politicians and a greedier government who clearly do not the fundamentals of creating a solid even infrastructure.
What exactly do we get for paying rip-off taxes, duty, VAT etc??? Bugger all!

So whens the new condem government going to do something about fuel prices? Everyone blamed BROWN. Now who’s to blame for the highest petrol prices ever?? They are all the same. Fuel prices increases no matter who is in power!! We just keep accepting it like the good British sheep we all are!

Are you feeling okay Joey? I would have imagined a model member of society such as your good self would be all for the rise?

why do forecourts charge 17.5% vat on fuel when vat on fuel should only be 5%. If you buy your fuel in bulk like i do from a fuel company then i only pay 5% vat.
The costs of living goes up all the time, when the 2.5% vat is added to the current 17.5% vat it will just make life harder, The only people living a comfortable life is the goverment who constantly claim living expenses.
If all MP S wages was cut by half then no rises for the general public would be needed, they would make a big enough saving just on the wage cuts.
the only people who should suffer are the ones who voted for these idiots in the first place
