Actors are being sought for a production of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! being staged at  Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre.

West Bromwich Operatic Society, which has more than 150 members and was established in 1938, will put on the show in the spring.

The society is holding open auditions to find boys for the parts of Oliver and The Artful Dodger, as well as Fagin’s Gang and the Workhouse Boys.

Edward Matty, business manager of the society, said they usually have around 50 to 70 people on stage out of a total of 150 members who also make up off-stage crew.

“We have around two or three productions a year and our last production was Jesus Christ Superstar which was at The Grand and the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham.

“We have members of all ages and rather than have requirements we are more interested in how people come across on the stage. There can be people out there who have no experience who could be perfect for us so we have an open mind which is why we are holding open auditions.”

Auditions will be staged at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre on Saturday starting at 9.30am.

Hopefuls must pre-register in order to guarantee being seen by emailing audition@wbos.co.uk or calling 0121 5503667. Registration can also take place in the main foyer at the Grand Theatre on the day, although this will not guarantee an audition and all hopefuls need to be accompanied by an adult.

The West Bromwich Operatic Society show will be staged at the Grand Theatre from May 10 to 14.  For tickets call 01902 429212.
