Man killed by train at Smethwick Rolfe Street station

A man died when he was hit by a train at a Black Country station. It happened at Smethwick Rolfe Street just before 1pm yesterday.

The station closed for 90 minutes, disrupting hundreds of passengers.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the station, but the man was declared dead on arrival.

Wolverhampton to Birmingham services were suspended and Birmingham to Liverpool services were diverted via Bescot.

Passengers on the 12.50pm Wolverhampton to Walsall train and the 11.34am Liverpool New Street to Birmingham train were taken back to the Wolverhampton station.

The train involved was the 11.23am London Euston to Wolverhampton service.
