Wagner Carrilho has lived to fight another day – despite facing the wrath of Cheryl Cole who was today defiant over her on-screen outburst towards him.

Despite murdering not one but three Beatles songs and offending the nation’s sweetheart, the adoring public put Dudley’s most famous Brazilian through to the next round.

There is little point dissecting his performance of Get Back, Hippy Hippy Shake and Hey Jude as the two minutes he spends on stage each week now take a back seat to the general madness of Wagner World.

This week’s main controversy? The 54-year-old’s on-air spat with judge Cheryl Cole, whom he allegedly branded  “a girl from a council estate who got lucky”. Err, am I missing something here? That’s exactly what she is.

But still, that didn’t stop Cheryl launching into a long-winded, self-important speech. “I am very proud of my roots and I am very, very, lucky. But if I was to give you any constructive advice, it would be don’t focus on everybody else or how lucky I am, but how lucky you are to be on that stage tonight.”

Alright love, give it a rest. Despite being a fully-fledged member of the Cheryl Cole fan club — I have my stripy tights and cheap hair dye at home — I’m getting a bit sick of her stroppy, holier-than-thou attitude.

Cheryl’s rant also didn’t go down well with Simon Cowell, who was today said to be furious she did not voice her concerns backstage.

Millions watched former PE teacher Wagner politely reply: “I said Cheryl is a role model for the young people in this country because I believe she lived in a council estate.

So many people live in a council estate and don’t believe they can achieve a better standard of living. You are incredibly talented and beautiful and a princess. You are now the most famous woman in the country.”

But Cheryl is today standing by her little speech — despite being well and truly put in her place by Wagner. “I don’t care what people think, I had to answer back,” she is alleged to have told friends.

Maybe she’s smarting because her mini-me, Cher Lloyd nearly got the boot last night. After weeks of gurning, bad rapping and wearing three sets of false eyelashes, Cher was in the bottom two and, boy, was she not happy about it.

Despite crying and shaking her way through Shakespear’s Sister’s Stay — AGAIN! — Cher eventually won out against never-going-to-win-it Paije.

It was something of a moral victory — after being so mean to Wagner, Cheryl and her evil twin deserve to be taken down a peg or two.
