UB40 back for concert in Birmingham
Wednesday 27th October 2010, 1:24PM BST.
Brummie reggae legends UB40 returned to their home city for one of the first dates of their UK tour.
The group hit Symphony Hall last night ahead of tonight’s gig in Wolverhampton.
The tour marks the 30th anniversary of their first album Signing Off and as well as their most popular hits, fans can expect to hear lesser known tracks such as Food for Thought and I Think it’s going to Rain Today.
UB40 were formed in 1978 and have since gone on to sell 80 millions albums.
Despite the departure of former front man Ali Campbell whose distinctive vocals gave the group their signature sound, their popularity has not waned since replacement, Ali’s brother Duncan, stepped in.
A pre-tour warm-up gig on Friday at the Hare & Hounds pub in Kings Heath, Birmingham, where the band first played, went down a storm.
The Signing Off tour heads to Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall tonight, before heading across the UK and finishing in Southampton on November 19. See tomorrow’s Express & Star for a full review.
