Baths and sofas among Wolverhampton junk pile

Giuseppe Cataldo and son Roberto from Frozen Food Services, view the huge pile of rubbish at Jones's Bilston, Monmore Road, Wolverhampton.

What a load of rubbish – this 18ft mountain of waste was today at the centre of complaints in Wolverhampton.

Rusting old bath tubs, mattresses, sofas, a car seat and plastic sheeting is among the junk piled up at the site of skip hire firm Jones of Bilston, in Monmore Road.

The rubbish mountain – which is taller than some neighbouring factory buildings – is being monitored by the Environment Agency following complaints to the council by residents and nearby businesses.

Wolverhampton City Council’s public protection manager Andy Hall said: “We are aware of issues at premises on the industrial estate at Monmore Road and are liaising with the Environment Agency.”

Wayne Robinson, who co-manages nearby skip hire company Jones of Wolverhampton, in Cullwick Street, said he had made several complaints to the council demanding the pile be cleared up, but nothing has happened.

He said: “The problem has been going on for about five years and we have reported it to the council several times.”

Jones of Bilston’s secretary Lesley Slater said today: “We are trying to reduce the pile. We have been sending out the soil and brick but we’ve got to get on top of the log pile. Part of it will be disposed of in the next few weeks.”

    FIVE YEARS!!!!!

What on earth is going on? Slap a court oder on the firm immediately and jail the owners if the pile’s not cleared asap.

Individuals must take responsibility for their own actions!

What, and take away the added colour diversity of Wolverhampton’s rubbish? There’s ever colour of the rainbow there, Wulfrunian and I bet the smell is wonderful after five years..it sure has put us on the map from afar (again).

This is what is truly farcical about Council planning and environmental powers. Five years to clear an obviously illegal pile of rubbish and they’re still ‘monitoring’ it. The neighbours are ‘monitoring’, the council’s job is to get it removed!

I wonder if they have a drivers seat for a ford capri mkII 1600, Im not shocked it takes the council 15 months to cut the grass by me,The same grass they promised would be maintained regularly. Now if im late on my rent they deliver a letter by hand even though i have phoned them to tell them it will be paid in 3 days.

Tell them you were delayed wading through the mountains of rubbish they didn’t clean up. Alternatively, request a rebate for the services they didn’t render..

ean33, it’s also funny how this council bends over backwards to give asylum seekers fully furnished houses, and also spends so much money on political-correctness. I am waiting for the day people have enough common sense to vote this lot out for good.

How disgusting. What on earth must be living in that pile? I wouldn’t like to have to sift through it. Honestly, the place gets worse by the day.
