A £3.5 million scheme to improve Kidderminster railway station has hit a new delay because of uncertainty over funding and it now has no start date.
The revamp of the station was due to begin this year with work to build a new forecourt. Construction of a new station building was due to follow in January.
But Worcestershire County Council today said works had now been put back and talks were set to begin with other organisations involved, including Network Rail. A firm date for work to start is now unknown.
The scheme was first put on hold in July to await completion of the Government’s comprehensive spending review.
But, although this was announced last week, the council has had to delay the scheme again as it will not know how much funding it will have until December.
Bosses say discussions are needed to assess how much Network Rail can commit to the development following the review.
The county council is also waiting to hear whether the station work will be affected by cuts to the budget of Advantage West Midlands.
The scheme has been put back until all the information has been gathered and funding commitments have been fully agreed.
A meeting on the project’s future will be held on November 9.
