Forget Christmas – Jessica Felton-Page already has her sights set on Easter sales thanks to the arrival of 12 piglets at her Staffordshire farm.
Muddy Footprints Farm Shop is already taking orders for Easter after the piglets have caught the eye of customers to the shop in Codsall Wood.
To see Jessica stroking the piglets and patting their hairy backs you would think she couldn’t be without them.
However, the 24-year-old who lives in Bishops Wood, is resolute that the animals that roam around the fields will one day end up as produce.
Jessica started the business in July last year with her partner, farmer Chris Coles and she says their fresh, locally-grown goods are proving very popular.
“There is no way we could name the piglets as they are farm animals – not pets,” says Jessica.
Jessica says their customers are keen to know where their food has come from, and already four out of the six sheep at the farm have been ordered for Christmas.
“The piglets are now five weeks old but we already have customers visiting them and placing orders for Christmas,” she says.
“Some people think ‘how can you kill an animal that you see every day’ but we make it clear from the start that they are farm animals.
“They have the best life, wallowing in the sun and enjoying the mud, but by keeping them free range it means the meat is of a high quality.”
