A scenes of crime tent was this afternoon on the pavement in Clifton Street, Chapel Ash, which is blocked off by police tape.

Police were called at about midnight to reports of a man having been attacked.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Sarah Astbury said the death was being treated as suspicious.

Maria Gingnacovo, of the Alexandra Pub in Chapel Ash, said: "I saw the police last night and I couldn't sleep. It's a bit scary."

Wolverhampton College hairdressing student Danielle Harris, 19, said she saw someone suspicious fleeing the scene.

"I came out my house at 11.15pm to use my mobile phone," she said.

"I saw a man walking up the street and across the car park opposite my house.

"Then half an hour later I saw an ambulance and the police. I saw a body lying on the ground and the paramedics put a sheet over it. I knew the person must be dead."
