Wolves have sent flowers and chocolates to the 78-year-old Notts County fan injured when bricks were thrown at the coach she was in following a match between the two teams.

Lois Brough suffered a gash to the face when a brick smashed through the coach window and struck her after Wolves’ 4-2 Carling Cup third round win over the Magpies on Tuesday night.

Wolves spokesman Matt Grayson said today: “We have sent Mrs Brough flowers and chocolates and will be following that up with another letter in due course. We wanted to do it on behalf of every single person at Wolves and every decent Wolves fan out there.

“We all send her our best wishes.”

Mr Grayson also confirmed the club would be sending letters to Notts County fans caught up in the attacks. Staff are waiting for Notts County to send names and addresses of supporters who may have been affected.

He said: “The letters will express the club’s anger and dismay at what happened.”

Meanwhile, Wolves has also set up a telephone line for any fans who may have information about the coach attack. People can leave information anonymously on 01902 687093.

Mrs Brough was among around 140 supporters caught up in the attack on three coaches as they travelled through the Horseley Fields area of the city. She told reporters she feared for her life.

“I can remember all these youths appearing from everywhere and they started throwing quite heavy bricks at the coach,” she said. “The noise was terrific. One brick came through a window and I can’t remember anything after that until I came round when a nurse was putting a dressing on my face. I could have been killed.”

Mrs Brough had to have her face stitched by a surgeon. She urged police to find the yobs responsible for the attack, who she branded as “not real football fans”.

Nottingham-based Premiere Travel, which owns the coaches, said around £20,000 of damage had been done to the vehicles. One coach was so badly damaged it had to stay in Wolverhampton while another was sent from Nottingham.

The ugly scenes followed controversy on the pitch as former West Bromwich Albion striker Lee Hughes goaded fans by revealing a T-shirt emblazoned with a popular Baggies chant.

Hughes was playing at Molineux for the first time since his 2003 jail sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.
