They fell in love after meeting on the Grand Theatre stage – and now two members of a Black Country am dram society are returning to the venue as husband and wife.

Jon and Gemma Dempsey met in Bilston Operatic Company’s production of Crazy for You at the Wolverhampton theatre in 2006.

Jon, now 39, played a cowboy, while mobile hairdresser Gemma, 30, is a dancer with the company. Romance blossomed and they tied the knot in Las Vegas on August 22.

Jon, an entertainer, who also does theme park work, is playing robot Ariel in the company’s take on Return to the Forbidden Planet that runs from November 9-13.

He has had plenty of practice at the role after reaching the quarter-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 with a robotic act.

The couple live in Fareham Crescent, Merry Hill. Gemma said: “He has to kiss another woman on stage. I don’t mind as it’s acting but I might close my eyes though.”
