Start for £7m road to Bournville College
Thursday 23rd September 2010, 11:30AM BST.
A £7 million roadworks scheme lasting 15 months will start in Birmingham in conjunction with the building of a new college on the former Longbridge site.
Bournville College is due for completion in autumn 2011.
The roadworks on Longbridge Lane, from its junction with the A38 Bristol Road South, up to the junction with Tessall Lane, are due to begin imminently.
The improvements are designed to open up access to the new £66 million college. Contractor John Sisk & Son Ltd has been appointed to carry out the project on behalf of developer St Modwen.
Bournville College forms part of the £1 billion transformation of the former MG Rover plant at Longbridge.
Former MG Rover workers have visited the site and signed the steel girders to mark the rejuvenation of the area.
