£100k of cannabis plants found at house
Wednesday 22nd September 2010, 6:00PM BST.
Police discovered up to £100,000 worth of cannabis plants in a raid on a detached house in the Black Country.
Householders living near the Walsall house said they were shocked to find out hundreds of plants were being grown at the property.
Police raided the property in Westbourne Road, Butts, in the early hours of yesterday after a tip-off, and found three storeys of plants with growing paraphernalia including lamps and electricity cable.
There was no one in the property at the time.
Officers were dismantling the factory and removing the plants yesterday.
Householder Joe Wright, aged 40, who lives in nearby Westbourne Street, said: “I’m very surprised. That house was on the market two and a half years ago and when it was bought we never saw anyone. We have always wondered who owned the place.”
Officers raided the property at about 12.15am yesterday. They have now cleared most of the equipment from the house.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Walsall Police on 0345 113 5000.
